Q: What goes on a label printing press inspection checklist?

Register at speed, die cutting and stripping, rewind tension, nip guards, lamps.

A label press quote lists colours and speed, but what a converter receives is decided by what runs inline after printing, die cutting, stripping, varnish and slitting, and by the drying, which most listings never state.

What hides inside the price

Stack, inline or central impression

Stack presses are compact but hold register less well on stretchy film. Inline unit presses suit self-adhesive labels. Ask which build, in writing.

Drying and curing

UV, IR or hot air decides which inks run and how fast. Ask lamp type and count per unit.

Inline finishing

Rotary die cutting, matrix stripping, cold foil, lamination and slitting make finished rolls. Each one missing is a second machine and a second pass.

Web width and repeat range

Narrow label presses and wide film presses share search words. Ask the web width and the repeat lengths the supplied gears cover.

Drive and tension

Servo drives per unit change jobs faster than a line shaft. Ask about web guiding and rewind tension.

Label sizes and repeat lengths.
Substrates: paper, PP, PE, film or foil.
Colours per job, including spot colours and white.
Finishing needed inline, one by one.
Typical run length and changeovers per shift.

The one people forget. The UV lamp datasheet with its extraction need, which your press room ventilation depends on.
