Cut sheet or roll fed
A cut-sheet former clamps one sheet at a time and suits thick parts such as covers, signs, bath trays and vehicle panels. A roll-fed line forms thin packaging continuously. They share a name and little else.

Under the name vacuum forming, suppliers sell both small cut-sheet formers for thick parts and roll-fed packaging lines, and the first job is to be sure which one you are being quoted.

The clamp frame sets the largest sheet. Ask whether frame windows adjust for smaller sheets, or whether every smaller part wastes a full-size sheet.
Thick sheet needs heat from both sides to soften evenly. Ask for heater type, the number of separately controlled zones, and whether a sag sensor stops the sheet drooping onto the tool.
A plug pushes the hot sheet into deep tools so corners do not thin out. A blown bubble pre-stretches the sheet first. Deep parts need at least one of them.
A cut-sheet former leaves the part in a frame of waste sheet. Trimming needs a CNC router, band saw or trim press, and it is rarely in the quote.

Send these with the enquiry. Without them, any number a factory gives you is a guess dressed as a quotation.

| Form your part from your sheet on the machine you will receive, for a counted set of cycles. | Every part fully formed, with no webbing at corners and no bubbles. |
| Measure wall thickness at the deepest corner of sample parts. | Corner wall at or above the minimum on your drawing. |
| Log heater zone temperatures across the platen during warm-up. | Every zone reaches and holds its set point within the spread written in the offer. |

We name the kind of source, how many and when, and never the factory. Listed prices are asking prices, not landed cost. Where we do not hold a fact we say so: that is a GAP, not an estimate.

Every machine we source in this area is on the Plastics & molding page. How a project runs, stage by stage, is on how it works, and what it costs is on pricing.
