What hides inside the price

Bag type and seal position

T-shirt bags are bottom sealed and punched for handles. Garbage bags on a roll are bottom sealed and perforated. Courier bags are side sealed with an adhesive flap. Each is a different machine.

Lanes

A double-line or four-line machine seals two or four bags side by side from one wide film. Speed per lane and the count of lanes together give output.

Sealing bar and temperature control

Ask how the sealing bar is heated, how many zones it has, and whether temperature is held by a closed loop. Compostable films seal in a narrower temperature window than PE.

Film feed drive and registration

Servo feed holds bag length better than a stepper. For printed film, a photocell must find the print mark so the cut lands in the same place on every bag.

Hot knife and punch guarding

Hot knives, punches and perforating blades need fixed or interlocked guards. Look at them on the machine, not in the brochure.

Before you ask for a price.

Send these with the enquiry. Without them, any number a factory gives you is a guess dressed as a quotation.

A sample bag, or a drawing with width, length, gusset and handle type.
Film material and thickness, including recycled content or compostable blends.
Plain or printed film, and where the print mark sits.
Bags per minute you need, and whether they are counted, stacked or rolled.
Whether the machine stands behind your film blowing line or runs from bought rolls.

Turn the claim into a demonstration.

Run your own film for a timed period at the offered speed.	Bag count per minute matches the offer, with every lane running.
Pull-test seals from bags at the start, middle and end of the run.	Film tears beside the seal before the seal opens, on every sample.
Measure bag length on printed film over a counted batch.	Length and print position stay inside the tolerance agreed before the test.

EU Declaration of Conformity with model and serial number under 2006/42/EC, or Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 for delivery from 20 January 2027, and 2014/35/EU and 2014/30/EU.
Risk assessment covering hot knife, punch and perforating blades.
Wiring diagram and the parameter list for each bag type tested.

The one people forget. The sealing parameters for each film tested at the factory. Without them, setup on a new film starts from guesswork.

You want to make the film as well as the bags.

A film blowing machine first; some suppliers offer a bag machine linked directly behind it.

Your bags are woven polypropylene sacks or non-woven shopping bags.

For standard T-shirt and garbage bags, Chinese machines are widely used. For thin compostable films at high speed, compare seal control and servo feed closely, or quote a used European machine too.

What should a bag making machine factory audit look at?+

Whether sealing bars and knives are made in-house, whether each machine runs real film before shipping, and whether spare knives and heaters are stocked.

What EU compliance applies to a plastic bag making machine?+

The machine needs a Declaration of Conformity under the machinery rules plus the low voltage and EMC directives. Rules on the bags themselves, such as thickness or compostability claims, apply to the product and vary by country.
