Industrial plastic shredder from China

A shredder is bought for the worst lump in your scrap, purgings, drums or baled film, and a capacity figure measured on clean bottles says nothing about how it handles that lump.

Two quotes, one machine name

What hides inside the price

Single shaft or double shaft

A single-shaft shredder pushes material against one rotor with a ram and sizes it through a screen. A double-shaft shredder shears between two slow rotors with no screen and leaves coarse strips.

Torque and reverse

Ask for gearbox rating and whether the rotor reverses on overload. A shredder that stalls on every purging lump needs an operator beside it.

Knife steel and cost per tonne

Ask for knife and counter-knife steel, how many times each knife can be turned or reground, and the price of a full set.

Feed and hopper

Baled film and long pipe need a different hopper and ram stroke from drums. Ask how your largest piece enters.

Photos and weights of your largest and toughest pieces.
Polymers, and any metal, glass or dirt in the scrap.
Kilograms per hour on that scrap.
Output size needed by the next machine.
Noise and dust limits in your hall.

EU Declaration of Conformity under 2006/42/EC, or Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 from 20 January 2027.
Risk assessment; ask whether EN 12012-3, for shredders, was applied.
Knife drawings with steel grade.

The one people forget. Knife drawings, so replacement knives can be made in Europe.
