Pet food canning line from China

Canned pet food is safe only if every double seam holds through the retort, and a line quote rarely says how the seam will be measured or the retort proven.

What hides inside the price

Seamer heads and can range

Speed comes from the number of seaming heads, and each can diameter needs its own chuck and rolls. Ask which of your can sizes the change parts cover.

Filler for chunks and gravy

Chunks in gravy fill in two steps, solids by weight then sauce. A single piston filler smears chunks on the flange, and a dirty flange leaks.

Retort type and size

Steam, water immersion, water spray and rotary retorts are all offered. Ask which, how many baskets, and whether it keeps up with the seamer.

Temperature recording

Ask for the number of probes and whether every cycle is stored. A retort you cannot prove is a batch you cannot release.

What the set price covers

Line listings quote wide ranges for one set, while a seamer alone has its own price. Ask which stations the headline covers.

Decode the model code.

On the seamer we read, the number is the count of seaming heads, which sets speed.

FBZ-8 = 8 heads, 8,000 to 12,000 cans an hour.
8,000 / 60 = 133 and 12,000 / 60 = 200 cans a minute.
Per head: 8,000 / 8 = 1,000 to 12,000 / 8 = 1,500 cans an hour.

Before you ask for a price.

Send these with the enquiry. Without them, any number a factory gives you is a guess dressed as a quotation.

Can material, diameter, height and end type, with a sample can and end sent to the factory.
Fill weight per can and the split between solids and gravy.
Cans per minute at the seamer, and hours per day.
Retort type you want and your steam and cooling water supply.
Whether depalletising, labelling and case packing are in scope, or only filler, seamer and retort.

EU Declaration of Conformity for the line as an assembly under 2006/42/EC, or Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 from 20 January 2027, plus 2014/35/EU and 2014/30/EU.
For the retort, conformity under the Pressure Equipment Directive 2014/68/EU and the pressure test record.
Seamer set-up sheet and roll drawings per can size.

The one people forget. The retort's pressure papers. Many countries require inspection before a pressure vessel is first used; without the file it sits idle.

What EU compliance applies to canning pet food?+

The machine: machinery, electrical and, for the retort, pressure equipment rules. Your business: feed hygiene under Regulation (EC) 183/2005 and the animal by-products rules under Regulation (EC) 1069/2009, whose implementing rules set the heat treatment for canned pet food. Expect your authority to ask for the process validation.
