Stud welding is two processes under one name, capacitor discharge for small studs on thin sheet and drawn arc for larger studs on thicker material, and buying the wrong one shows as burn marks or weak welds on your parts.

What hides inside the price

Capacitor discharge or drawn arc

Capacitor discharge is fast and leaves little mark on the back of thin sheet. Drawn arc welds larger studs with a ceramic ferrule or gas. Ask the stud range for each.

Gun and chucks

Ask for the gun type, lift adjustment, and a chuck for every stud size you use.

Manual or CNC

A CNC table places many studs on panels by program. It pays when positions repeat.

Consumables

Studs and ferrules to EN ISO 13918 fit most guns. Ask whether the machine needs its own studs.

Weld your studs on your sheet and bend or torque test them as EN ISO 14555 describes.	No weld failure; the stud or the sheet fails first.
Inspect the reverse side of thin sheet after welding.	Marking inside what your visible face accepts.
Weld at your production rate for an hour.	Last weld passes the same test as the first.

EU Declaration of Conformity citing the Low Voltage 2014/35/EU and EMC 2014/30/EU Directives and EN IEC 60974-1, plus 2006/42/EC or Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 for a CNC table.
Manual in your language with settings per stud size.
Electrical diagram and spare parts list.

The one people forget. Weld settings per stud size. Without them each new stud becomes trial and error. Fume extraction remains your duty as the employer.

You need threaded fixings in thin sheet.

A nut projection welder or clinch nuts; several listings sold projection welders under this name.

Studs repeat at the same places on every panel.

A CNC stud welding table or robotic welding cell.
