01Plasma source: make, amperage and duty cycle
The source sets the thickest plate you can cut cleanly, the hole quality and consumable cost. Get make, model and rated current in writing, and ask for the clean-cut thickness, not only the largest thickness it can sever.
02Torch height control
Arc voltage height control keeps the torch at the right distance as warm plate bows. Without it, bevel and dross grow across the sheet. Ask who supports it.
03Stepper or servo drives, and the gantry
Low-price tables use stepper motors on a light gantry. They cut straight lines well and lose position on fast small contours. Ask the drive make per axis.
04Water table or downdraft extraction
Plasma fume from steel, galvanised and stainless plate is a workplace hazard. A water table catches much of it; a dry table needs zoned downdraft and a filter.
05Bevel head and oxy-fuel torch
Thick plate weld preparation needs a bevel head, and very thick plate may need oxy-fuel too.
