01Belt, ring chain or plate chain
Belt types run faster and quieter and suit grain and light powders. Ring and plate chain types carry hot, heavy or abrasive material such as cement and sand. The quote should name which, and the belt plies or chain grade.
02Bucket volume, spacing and fill
Capacity claims assume a bucket volume, a fill ratio, a spacing and a speed. Ask for all four, or the tonnes per hour figure cannot be checked against your density.
03Discharge style
Centrifugal discharge throws material out at the head and needs speed. Continuous discharge runs slowly and treats fragile product gently. The wrong style breaks product or drops it down the return leg.
04Casing, doors and venting
Plate thickness, inspection doors at head and boot, a boot clean-out, and where explosion vents would go. Grain and flour dust in a closed casing is the classic explosion risk.
05Drive, backstop and head access
Motor and gearbox brand, a backstop so a loaded leg cannot run backwards, and a platform to reach the head. Head access is often missing from low quotes.
