The words belt conveyor cover a bench-top parcel conveyor and a kilometre of mine conveyor, so two quotes only compare once you have fixed the belt material, the load per metre, the incline and the hours it runs.

What you are actually comparing.

Two quotes, one machine name

What hides inside the price

Belt material and cover

PVC or PU for cartons and food, rubber with fabric or steel cord for bulk. Ask for the belt maker, the plies and the cover thickness on the quote, not only the word PVC.

Load per metre and incline

A belt sized for light cartons on the flat can slip or stall on an incline with heavier product. Ask for the drive calculation at your worst case.

Drive, gearbox and motor

Brand, power and whether the motor is rated for continuous duty at your voltage and frequency. Low-price units often use a small geared motor sized for demonstration speed.

Tracking and take-up

Crowned pulleys, adjustable ends and a take-up that keeps tension over time. Poor tracking is the most common complaint after the first month.

Frame and support

Aluminium profile or painted or stainless steel. Check leg spacing, height adjustment and whether side guides are included.

Before you ask for a price.

Send these with the enquiry. Without them, any number a factory gives you is a guess dressed as a quotation.

What goes on the belt: sizes, weights, or bulk material with its density and lump size.
Length, width, incline, and any curve or transfer.
Speed or throughput, and hours per day.
Wet, oily, hot, food-contact or dusty conditions.
Where it starts and stops, and which machine gives it the start signal.

Turn the claim into a demonstration.

Require this	A pass looks like
Run the conveyor loaded with your heaviest product at the quoted speed for a full shift.	No belt slip, motor temperature stable, and the belt stays inside its tracking marks.
Stop and start under full load ten times.	It restarts each time without stalling and without product falling at the transfer.
Press every emergency stop and pull-cord along the length.	The belt stops from every point and needs a manual reset to restart.

The documents that must arrive with it.

EU Declaration of Conformity naming 2006/42/EC, or Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 for delivery from 20 January 2027, with low voltage 2014/35/EU and EMC 2014/30/EU.
Belt data sheet with material, plies and, for food, a declaration under Regulation (EC) 1935/2004.
Drive calculation and the parts list for pulleys, bearings and the gearbox.

The one people forget. The declaration of incorporation, if the conveyor is sold as part of a bigger line. A conveyor section built into your line may arrive as a partly completed machine, and then the line as a whole needs its own conformity assessment.

Named, not hedged

You move pallets or heavy crates with a flat, rigid base.

A pallet conveyor or roller conveyor system, which carries heavy units without belt wear.

You move powder or granules through a closed path, up a steep angle.

A screw conveyor or bucket elevator, which contain dust and climb steeply.

EN 620 covers fixed belt conveyors for bulk material, and EN 619 covers unit load handling. Ask which one the supplier designed to.

The company that places it on the EU market, often the buyer. That company checks the declaration and adds its name and address.
