Standard, top-press or manifold
A standard chamber holds trays or open vials. A top-press model stoppers vials under vacuum at the end of the cycle, and the press takes shelf space. A manifold dries flasks hung outside the chamber.

A laboratory freeze dryer is chosen by what it must hold and what it must trap: the vial format and stoppering you need, and the solvent your condenser must freeze, and quotes rarely state either.

A standard chamber holds trays or open vials. A top-press model stoppers vials under vacuum at the end of the cycle, and the press takes shelf space. A manifold dries flasks hung outside the chamber.
A condenser around minus 55 °C suits water. Samples with organic solvents often need minus 80 °C. Name your solvent system before accepting the cheaper trap.
Ask ice captured per 24 hours and the maximum liquid load per run. A small trap stops the cycle long before the shelves are full.
Some benchtop units have unheated shelves and dry slowly on ambient heat. Ask whether shelves are heated and controlled, and how many product probes are fitted.
Ask pump make and type, the gauge type, and whether shelf, condenser and pressure data export as a file.

In one Chinese series the number gives shelf area in hundredths of a square metre, and a suffix gives the chamber type. Other makers number by ice capacity, so read the table behind every code.
03
Send these with the enquiry. Without them, any number a factory gives you is a guess dressed as a quotation.

| Require this | A pass looks like |
|---|---|
| Empty pull-down from ambient to working condenser temperature and vacuum. | Condenser temperature and chamber pressure reached within the time written into the offer. |
| A full run with your formulation in your vials, followed by stoppering if quoted. | Intact cakes, residual moisture at or below target by Karl Fischer, and every vial stoppered. |
| Export the log of that run. | One file with shelf, product, condenser temperature and pressure for the whole cycle. |

A commercial freeze dryer with larger shelf area and a food-contact file.
A laboratory spray dryer, which turns liquid into powder in seconds.

We name the kind of source, how many and when, and never the factory. Listed prices are asking prices, not landed cost. Where we do not hold a fact we say so: that is a GAP, not an estimate.

Every machine we source in this area is on the Lab & process page. How a project runs, stage by stage, is on how it works, and what it costs is on pricing.
Straight answers
Refrigeration makes, condenser temperature, shelf heating control, gauge type, logging and service. Compare units with the same shelf area, trap temperature and chamber type.
Serial number against the declaration, shelf area, condenser pull-down, ultimate vacuum, stoppering if quoted, sensor calibration, refrigerant label and a logged run of your samples.
A Declaration of Conformity for that serial number with a technical file behind it, under machinery, low voltage and EMC rules. A CE mark on a listing proves nothing.
Whoever places it on the EU market, usually the lab or company buying direct. Your name goes on the unit or papers and you check the conformity file.
