01Resistance or ultrasonic
Resistance spot welders join nickel strip to cylindrical cells. Ultrasonic welders join thin foil tabs, usually on pouch cells. Four of fifteen listings we checked were ultrasonic. Match the process to your cell format first.
02Power source type
Capacitor discharge, transistor and inverter sources deliver current differently. Ask which you are quoted, how pulse length and current are set, and whether a current monitor checks each weld.
03Strip material and thickness
Pure nickel, nickel-plated steel and copper-nickel sandwich strip need very different energy. Ask the maximum thickness per material, tested, not a single headline figure.
04Head: manual pen, bench or gantry
Hand pens depend on the operator's pressure. Bench heads with spring force repeat better. Automatic gantries place every weld by program for pack volumes.
05Electrode force and wear
Ask how electrode force is set and measured, and the price and life of electrode tips, which wear and change the weld over a shift.
