Terrazzo tile machine from China

A terrazzo tile is only half made when it leaves the press, and quotes that stop at the press leave out the double-layer feed and the grinding and polishing line that give the tile its surface.

What hides inside the price

Press force against tile area

Listings run from about 200 tonnes to 600 tonnes. Divide force by tile area: the same tonnage on a 600 x 600 mm tile presses far less per square centimetre than on a 300 x 300 mm tile.

Single or double layer

Terrazzo normally has a wear layer of marble chips over a cheaper backing layer. Some presses can only fill one layer. Ask for a double-layer feed if your tile needs one.

Water removal

Wet-press machines draw water out of the mix under pressure through filter cloths. Ask how the water is removed and how often cloths are changed.

Station count

Rotary presses fill, press and demould at different stations at once. Single-station presses do each step in turn. Ask the seconds per mould and the tiles per mould.

Grinding and polishing line

Cured tiles are calibrated, ground and polished. Ask whether the offer includes it, how many heads, and the abrasives it uses.

Decode the model code.

Model names here are not a standard code. Work from the cycle and tile size in the listing instead.

Before you ask for a price.

Send these with the enquiry. Without them, any number a factory gives you is a guess dressed as a quotation.

Tile sizes, thickness and chip sizes for the wear layer.
Use: EN 13748-1 for internal terrazzo tiles or EN 13748-2 for external use.
Square metres a day after polishing, not pieces off the press.
Finish: polished, honed or textured.
Water treatment for grinding slurry.

Turn the claim into a demonstration.

Require this	A pass looks like
Press 50 tiles of your largest size with your chips and double layer.	No delamination between layers on tiles cut in half after curing.
Run cured tiles through the offered grinding and polishing line.	Thickness and flatness inside the offer tolerance, with no backing layer showing through.
Send tiles to an independent laboratory for EN 13748 tests.	Flexural strength and abrasion meet the class you will declare.

EU Declaration of Conformity under 2006/42/EC, or Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 from 20 January 2027, with 2014/35/EU and 2014/30/EU, for the press and the polishing line.
Hydraulic diagram with the rated and relief pressure.
Mould drawings for each tile size.

The one people forget. The slurry and water plan for grinding. Your permit may require settling and recycling of grinding water, and the polishing line supplier rarely provides the design.
