Screw and cage design
Screw worm pitch, cage bar gap and choke adjustment set pressure and residual oil. Ask for the screw steel and hardness, and whether worm segments can be replaced one by one.

An oil press is judged by how much oil stays in the cake, and that figure depends on your seed, its moisture and how it is heated before pressing, so a kilograms per hour rating on the seller's seed says almost nothing about your yield.

Screw worm pitch, cage bar gap and choke adjustment set pressure and residual oil. Ask for the screw steel and hardness, and whether worm segments can be replaced one by one.
Cold pressing keeps flavour and suits a premium oil, but leaves more oil in the cake. Hot pressing with seed conditioning ahead gives more oil. Ask what outlet oil temperature the press reaches on your seed, measured, before you print cold pressed on a label.
Cleaning, dehulling, flaking and a cooker or roaster decide yield as much as the press. Ask which of these are in the quote and which you must buy.
Oil leaves the press with fines. A vacuum filter, plate and frame filter press or settling tanks are needed before bottling. Many single presses ship with a small filter that cannot keep up with full output.
Ask which parts touching oil are stainless steel and which are carbon steel or cast iron, and for the food-contact declarations for them.
02
Send these with the enquiry. Without them, any number a factory gives you is a guess dressed as a quotation.

| Require this | A pass looks like |
|---|---|
| Press a weighed lot of your own seed and weigh oil and cake. | Oil yield recorded, and residual oil in the cake measured by a lab against the figure in the contract. |
| Measure oil temperature at the press outlet during steady running. | Temperature logged and within the limit you set for your cold pressed claim. |
| Run the filter at full press output for an hour. | Filtered oil clear to the agreed standard with no bypass, and filter cleaning time recorded. |

Solvent extraction after pre-pressing. A screw press alone leaves too much oil in low-oil seed.
An olive mill with crusher, malaxer and decanter. Olives are paste, not seed, and screw presses are not built for them.

We name the kind of source, how many and when, and never the factory. Listed prices are asking prices, not landed cost. Where we do not hold a fact we say so: that is a GAP, not an estimate.

Every machine we source in this area is on the Agriculture & feed page. How a project runs, stage by stage, is on how it works, and what it costs is on pricing.
Straight answers
One tested on your seed, with residual oil measured in the cake, a filter sized for full output and food-contact papers for oil-wetted parts.
Screw metallurgy, cage precision, temperature control and filtration. Ask both for a pressing test on your seed and compare yield and residual oil.
Serial against the declaration, contact materials against the declarations, a pressing test with oil and cake weighed, outlet temperature, filter capacity and guarding over the drive.
Machinery and electrical declarations, food-contact declarations, and the importer's name on the machine or papers. Food law on the oil you sell is your business, separate from the machine.
