Fruit grading machine from China

A fruit grader must sort on the measure your buyers pay for, size, weight or appearance, and do it without bruising the fruit, and the cheapest machines fail on one of those two without saying so.

What hides inside the price

Grading principle

Roller or belt graders sort by diameter through widening gaps. Cup graders weigh each fruit on a load cell. Camera graders add colour, shape and surface defects. Your buyer's specification decides which one.

Fruit handling and drops

Every drop and transfer can bruise. Ask the height of each drop, the padding, and how fruit lands in the outlet bins.

Lanes and outlets

Lanes set throughput and outlets set how many grades you can sell. Count both against your grade list.

Changeover between fruits

Cups, rollers and camera programs may differ for each fruit. Ask what must be swapped and how long it takes.

Before you ask for a price.

Send these with the enquiry. Without them, any number a factory gives you is a guess dressed as a quotation.

Every fruit you grade, with a sample box of each.
Your grade list: size bands, weight bands or defect classes.
Tonnes per hour at peak, and hours per day.
Wash, dry, wax and pack stations wanted before and after grading.
Space for the line, including outlet bins or packing tables.

Grade a counted lot of your fruit, then reweigh or remeasure a sample from each outlet by hand.	Fruit in the wrong grade counted per outlet and inside the agreed rate.
Hold graded fruit for two days and inspect for bruises.	Bruised fruit counted against an ungraded control box, within the agreed difference.
Run at the stated capacity for thirty minutes.	Tonnes per hour weighed at the grading accuracy tested above.

Food-contact declarations under Regulation (EC) 1935/2004 for cups, belts and rollers.
Electrical schematics citing 2014/35/EU and 2014/30/EU, and the load cell calibration method.
