What hides inside the price

Ring die or flat die

Ring die mills suit continuous wood production; flat die mills are smaller and cheaper.

Die steel and compression ratio

The die sets density and wears fastest. Ask steel, hardness and compression ratio for your species.

Main motor against output

Divide main motor power by stated output to get energy per tonne. Compare offers on that.

What else is in the plant

Hammer mill, dryer, conditioner, cooler, sieve and bagging. Many offers price the mill alone.

Rollers and bearings

Roller shells wear with the die. Price spare shells.

Before you ask for a price.

Send these with the enquiry. Without them, any number a factory gives you is a guess dressed as a quotation.

Species and whether you feed sawdust, shavings or chips.
Moisture as delivered, and particle size after grinding.
Target output in tonnes per hour and pellet diameter.
The fuel grade your buyers ask for.
Power supply capacity on site.

Run your own ground and dried material for a counted hour.	Output inside the stated kg per hour with the main motor below its rated current.
Sample cooled pellets and test durability and fines.	Results at the grade your buyers ask for, from a lab report.
Inspect the die after the run.	No blocked holes and even wear across the face.

The documents that must arrive with it.

EU Declaration of Conformity, 2006/42/EC until 19 January 2027, then Regulation (EU) 2023/1230.
Die and roller drawings with steel grade for spares.
Plant layout with the dust extraction points and any ATEX 2014/34/EU zone question marked.

The one people forget. The pellet grade your buyers ask for is set by EN ISO 17225-2 and tested on the pellets, not on the mill.

You sell heating logs for open stoves and fireplaces.

A wood briquette machine. It skips the fine grinding and pellet cooling.

You have a few hundred kilograms of residue a day.

A briquette press, or sell the sawdust. A pellet plant needs steady volume.
