What hides inside the price

Drill only, or drill, glue and insert

A drill-only machine leaves gluing and dowel driving to people. An inserting machine glues the hole and drives the dowel in the same cycle. Say which in the enquiry.

Edge or face drilling

Dowel joints need holes in the panel edge and matching holes in the face of the mating part. Ask which the machine drills, and whether one set-up does both.

Working length and thickness

Inserting machines often have a short maximum working length. A part longer than that must be drilled elsewhere.

Positioning

Manual stops, sensor detection of the panel end, or programmed positions. Programmed positions let hole patterns change without moving stops.

Glue dosing and dowel feed

On inserting machines ask how glue is metered per hole, the dowel diameters and lengths the feeder takes, and how blocked feeds are cleared.

Drill and, if ordered, glue and insert dowels on your longest edge and your thinnest panel.	Every hole centred in the thickness within your tolerance, every dowel at the drawing height, no glue on the face.
Assemble the joint with the mating part drilled on the face.	The joint closes by hand pressure without the dowel splitting the panel, and the faces are flush.
Run the dowel feeder until a hopper is used up.	No missing or double dowels, with a count written in the report.

Instructions in the language of use with guarding, noise data and the air supply.
The list of dowel sizes the feeder takes, and the glue system cleaning procedure.

The one people forget. The dowel size list. A feeder built for one dowel diameter needs new parts for another, and without the list in the contract you learn this when your supplier changes dowels.
