Kibble coating drum from China

A coating drum is a simple rotating tube, and the hard part is invisible: holding the fat and palatant dose steady while the kibble flow into it rises and falls.

How the dose follows the kibble

Better drums weigh the incoming kibble and adjust the liquid pump to match. A fixed-speed pump turns every surge from the dryer into a fat error. Ask what measures the flow.

Spray or disc

Nozzles block with cold fat; spinning discs need the right drum speed. Ask how the liquid is applied and kept warm up to that point.

Powder palatant dosing

A dry palatant after the fat needs a second feeder with its own control, often an extra line on the quote.

Drum or vacuum coater

A drum coats the surface. Deep liquid inclusion needs vacuum, which is a batch machine at a different price.

Contact material and cleaning

The listing we read stated no stainless grade. Fat builds up on the flights; ask for grade, finish and safe access for cleaning.

Decode the model code.

In the one series we read, the number is the drum diameter in centimetres. It says nothing about fat dose accuracy.

SYPG65 = 650 mm diameter, 2.5 m long; SYPG135 = 1,350 mm diameter, 3.5 m long.
The same series spans 1.5 to 12 t/h, so the smallest and largest differ by 12 / 1.5 = 8 times in rated throughput.

Send these with the enquiry. Without them, any number a factory gives you is a guess dressed as a quotation.

Kibble throughput in tonnes per hour leaving your dryer, with its peak.
Fat and palatant levels as a percentage of kibble weight, liquid, powder or both.
Fat type and the temperature that keeps it liquid.
How fragile your kibble is, since tumbling makes fines.
Whether you need a surge hopper to steady the feed.

The one people forget. The flow meter calibration record. Without it, nobody can show that the fat level printed on your bag matches what the drum applied.

Mostly the dosing control and flow measurement, less the drum. Name the load cell and pump makes in the contract.

What should a kibble coating drum inspection checklist hold?+

Shell material and welds, spray bar or disc, pump and flow meter makes, fat line heating, drive guarding, and a fat test at stepped feed rates.

Does the drum have to meet feed law?+

The feed hygiene rules in Regulation (EC) 183/2005 bind your business, not the drum. If the fat or palatant is of animal origin, the animal by-products rules in Regulation (EC) 1069/2009 also apply to your plant.

Who is the EU importer of a kibble coating drum?+

Whoever places it on the EU market, often the buyer. That name goes on the machine or papers, and the importer checks the documents match the drum.
