01Chain or roller, and pallet direction
Roller sections carry a pallet with its bottom boards running in the direction of travel. Turned sideways, the boards lie parallel to the rollers and can drop between them, which is why chain sections carry pallets across. Ask which way each section runs your pallet.
02Transfers, turntables and lifts
Chain transfers, pop-up roller transfers, turntables and vertical lifts cost more than straight runs and do most of the work. Count them on the quote against your layout.
03Load rating and roller pitch
Rated load per pallet and per metre, roller diameter, wall thickness and pitch. A heavy pallet concentrated on few rollers bends them.
04Drives, zones and stops
One drive per section or a line shaft, with stops and sensors so pallets queue without pushing. Ask how many zones the quote assumes.
05Entry, exit and guarding
Forklift loading stations, pallet centring guides, fences and light curtains at open ends. Guarding is often left for the buyer.
