Kilograms can mean per batch or per hour, and roast time changes with the nut, so a single capacity figure says little until you name what you roast.

What hides inside the price

Batch drum or continuous belt

Drums roast one load at a time and suit several nut types. Belt roasters run continuously at higher volume and suit one product all day.

Heating

Electric, gas or electromagnetic, with direct heat on the drum or hot air through the load. Ask the temperature spread from drum front to back.

Cooling

Nuts keep roasting until they are cooled. Ask whether a cooling tray or cooler is in the price, and how fast it brings product down.

Cleaning between nuts

Peanuts and tree nuts are separate allergens under Regulation (EU) 1169/2011. Ask how the drum is emptied and cleaned between them.

Send these with the enquiry. Without them, any number a factory gives you is a guess dressed as a quotation.

Each nut type, and whether blanched, raw with skin or in-shell.
Kilograms per hour after cooling, per nut.
Roast colour target and moisture after roasting.
Gas or electric supply and kilowatts available.
Where smoke and loose skins will be extracted.

Declaration of Conformity under 2006/42/EC or, from 20 January 2027, Regulation (EU) 2023/1230, plus 2014/35/EU and 2014/30/EU.
Regulation (EC) 1935/2004 declaration for drum, paddles and cooler.
Burner and gas train papers for gas-fired units.

The one people forget. A written cleaning procedure for the drum, which your allergen plan and your auditor will ask for.
