01Method: blade, router, punch or laser
V-cut blade separators only work on V-scored panels. Routers cut tab-routed panels of any shape. Punch dies are fast but need a die per board. Lasers cut without contact but burn a small edge. Of fifteen listings, six were pneumatic blade units, four routers and four lasers.
02Stress on the board
Bending and blade pressure strain the board near the cut. Ask whether the supplier has measured it with strain gauges, following IPC/JEDEC-9704, on a board like yours.
03Dust and fume
Routers throw glass fibre dust; lasers make fume. Ask the extraction airflow the machine needs and whether a filter unit is in the price.
04Fixtures per board
Routers and punches need a fixture or die per board type. Ask the cost and lead time of each new fixture, not only the machine.
05Offline or inline
Offline machines are loaded by hand. Inline routers take panels from the line. Ask about the conveyor height and communication with the machines around it.
