A rebar bender is sold by the bar size in its name, but that size is for soft round bar; what matters is torque at your grade and the mandrel it bends around.

What hides inside the price

Rated diameter and on what steel

Ask the ribbed bar maximum at your grade, and the strength it was rated at.

Mandrel and pin set

The mandrel sets the inside bend diameter. Check the supplied mandrels meet your design code for each bar size.

Angle control and repeatability

Manual stops, preset pedal angles or a multi bend program. Ask how repeatable the angle is.

Spindle speed and gearbox

A slow disc bends thick bar; a faster one suits stirrups.

Decode the model code.

In GW40 the 40 is round bar capacity in millimetres. Three of five listings rated ribbed rebar at 32 or 36 mm.

32 / 40 = 0.8: a fifth less diameter on ribbed bar.
Bar section: 32 x 32 = 1,024 against 40 x 40 = 1,600.
