01Combined unit or staged plant
A combined rice milling machine husks and polishes in one or two passes, which is compact and cheap but breaks more kernels. A staged plant separates cleaning, husking, paddy separation, whitening and grading, and treats the grain more gently.
02Husker type
Rubber roll huskers remove the hull with less breakage than steel huskers. The rolls wear and are a running cost; ask the roll life in tonnes and the price of a pair.
03Whitening stages
Two or three whiteners removing bran step by step break fewer kernels than one aggressive pass. A water polisher adds shine for a premium market.
04Grading and sorting
A length grader separates brokens, and a colour sorter removes discoloured and chalky grains. Ask whether both are in the price or added later.
05Paddy drying and storage
Paddy that is too wet or too dry cracks in milling. If you mill your own harvest, the dryer matters as much as the mill.
