A slitting line is judged by the strip it delivers, its burr, width and camber, which depend on knife shaft, tooling and recoil tension that a quote by width and thickness does not describe.

What hides inside the price

Thickness and width window

The thickest coil sets knife shaft diameter and motor. Listings gave pairs such as 1300 x 1.5 mm and 1350 x 3 mm. Ask the thinnest too.

Knife tooling

Knives, spacers and stripper rings for your widths. Ask how many sets, the knife hardness, and who regrinds.

Tension and recoiling

A tension stand and separator keep strips tight and square on the recoiler. Without them strips telescope or wind loose.

Coil handling and scrap

Coil car, maximum coil weight, and an edge scrap winder. Ask what is in the line and what is an option.

Before you ask for a price.

Send these with the enquiry. Without them, any number a factory gives you is a guess dressed as a quotation.

Material grades, thickness range and coil width, weight and inner diameter.
Strip widths and the narrowest strip, with width tolerance.
Burr and camber limits your customer or next machine accepts.
Output target per shift, including knife changes.
Floor length available and supply voltage.

Turn the claim into a demonstration.

Require this	A pass looks like
Slit one of your coils into your narrowest and widest strips after a warm-up.	Width, burr and camber measured on every strip and inside your limits.
Recoil the strips at the line speed in the contract.	Coils wound tight with no telescoping and no edge damage.
Change the knife setup to a new strip plan and time it.	Change time recorded in the FAT report and matches the quote.

The documents that must arrive with it.

EU Declaration of Conformity for the line as one assembly, citing 2006/42/EC or Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 from 20 January 2027.
Manual in your language covering each section and the knife setting chart.
Electrical, hydraulic and knife tooling drawings.

The one people forget. One declaration for the whole line. Separate declarations for each unit leave the assembly without anyone responsible for it.

Buy something else if

Named, not hedged

You need flat sheets, not strips.

A cut to length line, or a hydraulic shearing machine for low volume.

Your slit volume is small.

Buy slit coil from a steel service centre until volume justifies the line.
